ATV's Dee Manshack builds the engines for
some of the fastest ATV racers like 2007
Pro Champions John Natalie Jr (WPSA) &
Harold Goodman (EDT) along with countless
amateur champions, but he also is an excellent
trainer and motivator because it takes more
than just a fast engine to win a championship |
(Splendora, Texas) - In the last
couple of years the level of competition in ATV
racing has increased dramatically due in part to
the manufacturers stepping up and offering more
factory deals than ever. With so much at stake now,
instead of taking it easy during the winter months,
many racers who are located in colder areas of the
country, such as Chad Wienen and John Natalie, are
opting to spend the winter in the warmer climates
of Texas, California, and Florida in order to train
and get a jump on the competition for the next season.
The increase in competition is not limited to
just the Pro racers. Amateur racers who are hoping
to one day make a career of racing, are feeling
the pressures of stepping up their game as well.
Many are seeking out riding schools and training
programs during the off season that offer them
the opportunity to get into a good training routine
and improve their skills, strength and endurance
like the program created by Dee Manshack at the
Splendora Motocross Park in Splendora, TX.
Dee Manshack has been involved with ATV’s
and racing since he was just a kid. Now he is
taking his years of experience and knowledge and
has created his own training program for ATV racers.
Dee is most noted for his work with John Natalie,
Jr. and most recently, Chad Wienen, who had his
most successful season to date at the 2007 WPSA
thanks in part to Dee’s training program.

The training program is focused on building endurance
and strength. “We do a lot of cardio training
and exercises to build up strength. We help riders
isolate their weaknesses and work on those. We
also try to teach the riders how to use their
strength the right way and flow with the bike
when they’re out on the track,” said
Dee in regards to his programs’ main focus.
Most of the training offered is one-on-one, but
during the winter months, there can be as many
as 25-30 riders at the facility who are trying
to escape the colder northern climates in order
to prepare for the up-coming season. “We
usually get a few pro riders down here in the
winter months which is really good for these guys
who are in the program because these kids get
to come down here and see the pros ride and learn
from them,” said Dee.

Six days
a week, Dee Manshack heads over to the
Splendora Motocross Track early in the
morning and begins his approx. 45 minute
work out with the riders, which consist
of stretches, pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups,
running, and numerous other cardio &
strengthening exercises

Dee also gets help from some of his more advanced
students that are at the facility as well. “Tommy
Hagar has been down here for a while and he’s
got a pretty good routine going, so he helps out
and takes some of the other riders out and works
with them,” Dee stated. “Dee is pretty
ruthless,” Hagar said with a laugh. “I
came down here in November and was the only guy
here. He had me working out three times a day, but
Dee’s program is really good and it does help
a lot,” concluded Tommy.
