Walnut,
IL (7/31/2007) –
Round 11 of the ITP/Moose Racing ATVA MX Series was held
at Unadilla Valley Sports, and for the third consecutive
year, the track belonged to Suzuki with Dustin Wimmer
claiming the win for the team. Just two years ago in 2005,
Jeremiah Jones won the inaugural ATV motocross race at
Unadilla, which was his only win of the year, but sadly,
in 2006, Jones was paralyzed in a first turn pileup in
the second Moto, which ended his racing career, but not
his passion for the sport. “Digger” Doug Gust
went on to win the race for his teammate and Wimmer joined
the Suzuki team in 2007 to fill the shoes of one of the
fastest ATV racers ever, Jeremiah Jones.
Suzuki / Red Bull's Dustin Wimmer arrived solo at Unadilla
without of the glamour of a big rig, but he had more
than enough to claim the win, which he accomplished
with ease. Without the luxury of cell phone service
found at almost all the track, many waited patiently
at home to hear the results from Unadilla just as I
did sitting at home sick with a bad summer cold. Less
than an hour after the checkered flag flew for the completion
of the second Moto, Jeremiah Jones was calling for the
results from his home in Kentucky since he couldn’t
wait to find out how Wimmer finished.
For Jeremiah Jones, it was great news to hear Wimmer
had claimed the win as Jones has transitioned into his
new role with Suzuki as a race team trainer, and he
has spent countless hours training Dustin Wimmer and
Chad Wienen this season at his home in Kentucky, and
the pair have both been extremely successful on the
track racking up numerous combined wins, which can partly
be contributed to Jeremiah's work with these young talents.
Back at Unadilla, the weekend started out similar to
last year with storms moving into the area on Friday
and Saturday, which turned the track into a muddy mess
and delayed the second Pro Practice on Saturday. When
the practice finally wrapped up, Jeremy Lawson was the
top qualifier with the fastest lap time of 2:02:355.
The Pro Class once again had large turnout with 14
Pro Riders signing up, and among the list of Pros were
Suzuki’s Dustin Wimmer and Kawasaki’s Josh
Creamer on his KFX450R. Also, top Canadian riders, Richard
Pelchat and Jasmin Plante made the short trip across
the border, but the biggest surprise of them all was
to see GNCC Pro & WPSA Quadterrain Pro racer, Chris
Bithell sign up to compete in the AMA Pro Class. In
a last minute struggle to get his Pro AMA license, Bithell
earned spot on the Pro starting gate and immediately
caught everyone’s attention when he started launching
“Sky Shot” among the other huge leaps of
faith at Unadilla.

In
a last minute decision, Chris Bithell decided
to give Pro Motocross racing a try, so after receiving
the go ahead from Looney Tuned Exhaust (LTE Racing)
to take the Rig, Bithell contacted his sponsors
for necessary parts needed to convert his woods
racers into a motocross machine. Just days before
the race, he met up with Custom Axis at Rausch
Creek to dial-in his suspension prior to making
the trip to New York. Once Bithell hit the track,
he surely looked at home on the motocross track,
which caught many by surprise
