Roberts Racing's Michael Coburn made the pass on Cooke halfway through lap one to take over the lead and checkout on the field

Cooke’s lead would not last long as Michael Coburn, who has been trailing Goodman all season in points made his way up from a third place start and was soon challenging Cooke for the lead. Within only a few turns, Coburn took advantage of one of the option lanes and got around Cooke and began to check out. Coburn was steadily increasing his lead, but in the 7th lap, everything came to a halt when Ryon Partee and Kirby Cooke connected and wrecked causing the race to be red flagged. Cooke was knocked unconscious while Partee suffered a broken sway bar.
