KTM's
Angel Atwell claims the Women's ATV Championship
after finishing runner-up the past 3 years
to Traci Cecco |
The Morning ATV race held its share of excitement
as well, and this round would mark the official
changing of the guard in the Women’s ATV
class as FRE/KTM mounted Angel Atwell put the
final nail in the coffin of Traci Cecco’s
long running domination of this class. Atwell
clinched the championship and climaxed a season
filled with tight racing as she took the second
spot behind her niece, Kristen Atwell. Traci Cecco
would claim 3rd.
The Warnert Racing team bolstered its number
of wins this season as Scott Kilby, Michael
Swift and Clifton Beasley all secured wins.
A sweep was almost a done deal until Mike Benson
was able to get around Rick Cecco who came upon
a lapper just as they hit the final leg of the
last lap and single line course. Benson would
claim the win, however Cecco’s finish
would seal the deal on his U2 class championship,
giving Warnert Racing another title on the season.

Jay
Shadron Claims his third Youth Overall
Win of the year |
The Youth race would prove once again that the
series has a vast reach in regards to talent.
Jay Shadron would claim the overall, followed
by Doug Howarth in second and Jon Rainey Jr. taking
the 3rd spot. Charlie Welch had to await word
from officials to see if he had indeed wrapped
up the 70 cc class championship and he was relieved
to find out that he indeed had. With that news,
Welch would move up from the 70 class and compete
on his 70 in the 90 Mod (8-11) class where he
put his DRR out front, claiming the class win
and a remarkable 6th overall!
With class championships wrapping up, the final
two rounds look to be a free for all as riders
want to complete the 2009 season on top. This
should give us some of the best racing of the
season as the GNCC Series heads to the Powerline
Park GNCC just one week after the Yadkin Valley
Stomp.
