Yamaha's
XC2 Pro-Am Racer, #7 Walker Fowler, claims
the Overall Win at the Rock Run GNCC |
Patton, PA (5/28/2011)
- In what could be one of the most exciting races
of the season, Pro-am racer Walker Fowler put
in an incredible performance and topped the afternoon
podium at round number six of the 2011 GNCC series
and became the first-ever pro-am racer to top
the podium in a non-gran prix style race.
Suzuki’s Chris Borich followed Fowler in
second on the podium after winning the XC1 Pro
class, and Brian Wolf charged hard to round out
the top three overall on the afternoon podium.
The weather was good with partly cloudy skies
and warm weather. The track was fast and rocky
and was wide enough to offer up plenty of opportunities
to pass, but it also had its treacherous spots
as several racers would find out throughout
the day.

Rock
Run Recreation Area in Patton, PA hosted
Round 6 of the rain plagued 2011 GNCC
Racing Season, but fortunately, the rain
that moved in on Thursday & Friday
cleared out on Saturday, which made for
a great race weekend at the 6,000 acres
facility |
Suzuki’s Chris Borich was in third off
the start and made his way past KTM's Bryan
Cook when he began to experience clutch issues
on the second lap, but Borich charge to the
front nearly ended at the end of lap when he
hit a kicker in the field section before the
finish line, which almost sent him over the bars.

As
Maxxis' Chris Borich charged his way to
the front, it was very obvious in some
sections of the track where the "Rock
Run" GNCC got its name with hillside
of rocks as part of the course |
“It caught me by surprise, but luckily
I was able to hang on and just keep going,”
said Borich, who continued to follow Brent Sturdivant
for one lap before Sturdivant encountered issues
and fell back, allowing Borich to take over
the lead.

There
was no celebration wheelie or fist pumping
as #1 Chris Borich charged through the
final turns before the line as Borich
was in a race against time with XC2 Pro-Am
Racer, Walker Fowler, leading the adjusted
time Overall by 20 seconds over Borich |
Once out front, Borich kept a steady pace,
and pulled away as he cruised to the checkered
flag for his fourth class win of the season.
“Winning the championship is my priority
and it would have been nice to be on top of
the podium, but I took the class win, so I am
happy with that for now,” said Borich.
