Suzuki’s Kory Ellis made a surprise appearance
at Glen Helen for round six of the 2009 Yamaha
ITP Quadcross series, but it was Can-Am Motoworks’
Jeremie Warnia who edged out the competition to
take a double Pro Production and Open Pro win,
while teammate Dillon Zimmerman was back in action,
just seven weeks after a serious wreck, to take
the 450 Production Expert win.
Going into round six, Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson
and Can-Am Motoworks’ Jeremie Warnia were
tied for the Pro Production points lead with 112
points, but this weekend, Warnia was able to edge
out Nelson to take the overall win and the points
lead.

Dustin Nelson grabbed the Moto 1 Holeshot
with Jeremie Warnia challenging him for
the lead, but Nelson would hold on to take
the Moto Win |
In the first moto, Nelson grabbed the holeshot
and began to pull away, but a slight mistake allowed
Warnia to catch up. Warnia and Nelson would battle
back and forth several times after that before
Nelson would make the pass stick forcing Warnia
to settle for second. In moto two, Nelson again
grabbed the holeshot, but Warnia got past him
in the second turn, which led to one of the closest
battles between the two all season.
“I had a good line going into the first
turn, but that set me up for a bad line in the
second turn and Warnia was able to get by me there,”
explained Dustin Nelson. “After that we
were battling really hard and giving it all we
had. At one point, I was pressuring Warnia really
hard but I caught a rut, which almost caused me
to crash and I lost about five seconds on him
and I wasn’t able to catch back up before
the finish.”

Yamaha's
Dustin Nelson once again grabbed the Holeshot
in Moto 2 on his YFZ450R, but Jeremie Warnia
would make the pass after turn two |
Can-Am's
Jeremie Warnia rode strong in the 2nd Moto
& held Dustin Nelson to claim the Moto
win & Overall, which boosted Warnia
into the Pro Points lead |
Warnia’s 2-1 was enough to give him the
overall win over Nelson’s 1-2, which now
gives Warnia a three point lead. “I’m
just going to have to go out there and get good
starts and be consistent so I can take back the
points lead and take another championship,”
Nelson concluded.
