Joe
Haavisto's regains the Open-Pro points
lead over Michael Pilotte by 28 points |
In Open Pro moto two, a little thunder and lightning
was on tap before the start, but there were no
delays as the storm held off and allowed things
to continue as scheduled. As racers left the line,
it was a furious battle for the holeshot which
had Joe Haavisto bump into Nate Morello, starting
a chain reaction, sending Morello in Jon Hansen,
who would then connect with Josh Creamer, who
would take out Matt Pomeroy, sending him over
the bars. Luckily no one was hurt.
As things were getting sorted out back on the
start, Joe Haavisto was busy chasing down Myles
Santaniello, who grabbed the holeshot. Haavisto
made his way around Santaniello shortly into
the moto and began to pull away. Haavisto rode
unchallenged to take the win and the overall.

Josh Creamer, once untangled from the starting
line pile up, mounted a huge charge, picking off
the competition and quickly making his way to
the number three spot after a short battle with
Nate Morello. Creamer then had his sights set
on Santaniello and took away the number two spot
with only two laps to go. Creamer began to lose
the gap on Haavisto, but was unable to close in
enough to make a move before reaching the checkered
flag and having to settle for the runner up position
for moto two. “It’s been several years
since Nationals have gone to Southwick and I had
forgotten how rough and challenging that track
can be,” said Creamer, sounding a little
disappointed with his results. Creamer’s
DNF in the first Open Pro moto, left him out of
the top ten for the day.
Myles Santaniello was looking strong as he
charged off the line and took the holeshot.
Santaniello was holding on tight to his lead,
but Joe Haavisto was on a mission and soon got
around the number 44 Honda. Santaniello would
ride a good portion of the race in second place
before losing a spot to Josh Creamer. Sataniello’s
consistent 3-3 finishes gave him the number
two spot overall.

Nate Morello also made a big charge after getting
tangled off the start and would finish in fourth
for moto number two, but at a cost. “When
Joe and I connected off the start, it put a
hole in my radiator and all the water leaked
out of my bike,” said Morello, who after
a quick motor swap and radiator fix, was back
up and running in time for the final Pro-am
moto.
Aaron Meyer, who was also running very consistently
despite the rough conditions, took a 4-5 finish
giving him third overall followed by Jason Connell
in fourth with . Vincent Mofford rounding out
the top five.
