Racers qualify to determine which of the
two classes they will compete in Pro or Pro-am.
Once qualifying is complete, heat races are
ran to determine starting position for the
main events. Qualifying is the only way to
practice for this event, but you can run qualifying
as much as you want. The track conditions
on Thursday and Friday during qualifying were
dusty as the track crew struggled to keep
it watered in the Texas heat. The finals are
held on Saturday afternoon which gives new
comers a chance to sign up and qualify during
the morning hours. After qualifying ends Saturday
a drivers meeting is held to let everyone
know which class they qualified for and to
know which heat races they will be competing
in.

As you may or may not know, Texas weather
can change in the blink of an eye. With the
threat of a thunderstorm moving in the area,
it was decided in the drivers meeting to skip
the heat races and move straight into the
main events in order to prevent a mud race.
This time they decided to go with a NASCAR
style starting procedure which would be a
live rolling start.
Thirteen Pro Am racers headed to the line
racing for $2,000, which was their share of
the prize money. The race would consist of
ten laps and lasted about twenty-five minutes
with the lap times running just over two minutes.
Hunter Ratterree had the fastest qualifying
time of the class in a moded 800s Polaris
RZR. At the green flag he was able to quickly
jump out front to set the pace for what would
turn out to be an interesting race. He was
followed closely by Jason Baird in a Polaris
900 XP.
Ricky Wilson was in third also driving a
Polaris 900 XP and Jordon Backriah was in
fourth on a Can Am Maverick. Ratterree was
able to keep the competition iced lap after
lap in spite having Jason on his rear bumper.

A pass attempt made on lap 6 by Jason Baird caused them to tangle which allowed Ricky Wilson who was in third to move into first with only 4 laps left before the finish. Baird ended up staying in second place after recovering from the tangle up with Ratterree, but the damage was done to Ratterree. He came out of the incident with 2 flats which allowed Jordon Backriah to move into third place and Patrick Shamblin to end up with fourth and Ratterree would finish out in 5th.
