Kawasaki's
Chad Wienen took over the lead through the
Endurocross section in lap two |
Josh followed in Doug through the first lap,
and as Josh was about to take the lead, Kawasaki’s
Chad Wienen got by and charged into first. Josh
followed Chad closely through lap two, waiting
for Chad to either tire or make a mistake. Frederick
didn’t have to wait long as Wienen encountered
electrical issues and was out of the race allowing
Frederick to take the lead and check out until
the ninth lap.
The day before, Josh had thrown a chain in practice
and as fate would have it, his chain came off
once again in the final laps of the race. Luckily
Josh had a big enough lead on second place Beau
Baron that he was able to get his chain back on
and maintain his first place position. “When
my chain came off, Beau was able to catch up to
me a little bit and that made me kind of nervous,
but I was able to keep my lead and start the season
with a win,” said Frederick, who is hoping
to claim a third consecutive championship.

Amazingly
for the sixth straight year, Josh Frederick
has won the opening round of the WORCS Series,
and five of those wins were at Speed World
MX, and for 2009, he did it against the
largest Pro ATV turnout of 29 Racers

MCR
Racing's Beau Baron secured a 2nd place
finish to kick-off the 2009 |
“I came off the line in about 6th place and
was right behind Dustin Nelson, which was a pretty
decent start,” said MCR’s Beau Baron.
The #3 Honda was behind Nelson and waiting for an
opportunity to pass, when Nelson had a mishap. “They
had changed the track a bit in this one section
and we didn’t get a chance to see it before
going out there and a lot of guys were going too
fast through that section and having issues. Dustin
went flying into that part and ended up going off
the track,” explained Beau. Beau Baron soon
ran into some issues of his own when he got caught
up in one of the banners lining the course. This
allowed Nelson and Doug Eichner to pass, however,
Baron would reclaim his position by overtaking both
Nelson and Eichner in the endurocross section of
the track, putting him into second place by lap
three. Baron held the number two spot all the way
to the finish line where he would finish just 22
seconds behind Frederick.

Yamaha's
Dustin Nelson made the switch to the new
YFZ450R,
which was released just a few months ago,
and Dustin's was equipped with a custom
oversized aluminum quick fill gas tank.
Dustin also has added Ohlins TTX shocks
along with a GPR Steering Stabilizer |

Yamaha
/ GYTR's Dustin Nelson rounded out the Podium
on the YFZ450R |
Dustin Nelson had a consistent run and was looking
smooth aboard his new Yamaha YFZ450R and despite
his heart-racing off-track adventure, was keeping
a very good pace. “They added some whoops
to one of the wash sections the night before the
race, which wasn’t that big of a deal, but
the last whoop was a lot bigger than the rest and
I hit it pretty fast. It shot me up so high that
I missed the turn that was right after it and I
ended up going off the track. That sure got my heart
rate going for the first lap!” exclaimed Dustin,
who was able to regain his composure and continue.
Dustin had no issues for the remainder of the race
and secured the final spot on the podium. “The
Yamaha ran great out there. We still have some fine
tuning to do with the suspension, but I’m
real happy with it so far,” stated Nelson.
“I’m really looking forward to this
season. There’s some new talent out here and
a lot more competition this year and it seems like
everyone has gotten faster. I think that’s
really going to mix things up in the points aspect,”
Dustin concluded.
