as the pair finished a lap ahead of the
rest of the class |
In last year’s Pro-Am class, Can-Am Motowork’s
Dillon Zimmerman missed his shot at the Pro-am championship
after suffering a bad crash that left him unable
to compete in the final round, where he and Josh
Row were in a heated points battle. This year, Dillon
has his sights set on taking the championship and
proved that he is serious after taking the first
round win. Dillon got off to a good start in 5th
place and soon found himself battling with David
Haagsma for the lead. “Haagsma had about a
35 second lead on me and I just reeled him in,”
said Dillon. The pair battled back and forth several
times over the course of the race, with Zimmerman
barley edging out Haagsma at the finish line for
the win, Leaving Haagsma to settle for second while
Garrin Fuller claimed the final spot on the Pro-am
podium. Dillon Zimmerman also claimed the win in
Saturday’s Production A class with Ron Heath
in second and Cody Mitchell in a close third.

The UTV races, which are a crowd favorite, also
offered plenty of excitement. In the UTV Class
1, Mark Holz was a dominating force aboard his
Polaris RZR, but he was being followed by first
time UTV racer, John Widdle & co-pilot Casey
Greek,, who was holding a strong second until
towards the end of the race, when he flipped his
UTV in spectacular fashion when his front wheel
clipped the wall of wash section of the track..
Luckily no one was hurt, but Widdles’s crash
allowed Steve Irvin to finish in second and Justin
Sheakley to take home third place.

wrapped up, it’s obvious that there will
be some incredible racing among the Pro’s
this year. With Josh Frederick trying to defend
his title, and an increasing number of competitors
that are able to make the podium on any given
day, this could be one of the most exciting seasons
in WORCS history. Round two of the 2009 WORCS
series, which will be held on Feb. 27th –
March 1st where Racetown 395 in Adelanto, CA will
play host to the weekend’s events.
