WORCS Racing ATV Race
Report
::Continued::
Nelson was still in the hunt as he charged after
Baron just a few quad lengths behind, but in the
ninth lap, Nelson was sidelined when his chain
came off and lodged itself in his engine case.
Nelson’s misfortune allowed Baron some breathing
room, as he want on to take the checkered flag
for the win.

Dustin Nelson was right behind #1 Beau Baron
when his chain derailed, which dropped him
out of the race |
“I’m really happy to start the season
off with a win. On the last couple of laps I could
tell that Josh (Frederick) was starting to close
in, so I picked up the pace and just kept going
to keep that lead,” stated Baron.

Can-Am's
Josh Frederick claimed 2nd |
Can-Am Motoworks’ Josh Frederick was in mid
pack off the start, but quickly worked his way into
the number three spot shortly into the first lap.
Frederick was looking smooth and consistent as he
settled into a strong pace for the two-hour race.
At the mid-way point Frederick began to close in
on Baron. Frederick was making good time when in
the final lap, his quad stalled. “I’m
not really sure what happened, but I couldn’t
get it to re-fire. Luckily Jeff Pickens stopped
and helped me push start it,” said Frederick,
who would have to settle for a second place finish
this time around.

Mike Cafro & #14 Robbie Mitchell battling
for the final spot on the Podium |
MCR/Maxxis’ Mike Cafro came on strong for
this round. Cafro was in mid pack off the start,
but he was able to steadily work his way up. By
lap five, Cafro was running in a comfortable fourth
place, but that comfort zone would not last. “I
was in fourth and then all of a sudden my pit crew
was telling me I was in third. There was no way
I was going to give that up!” said Cafro.
But Cafro would not go unchallenged as Robbie Mitchell
had caught up to him and was beginning to pressure
Cafro. “About four laps from the finish, Robbie
was right there and we were battling, but there
was no way I was going to let him get by me,”
Cafro explained.

Robbie Mitchell claimed the 4th spot after
a tough battle with Mike Cafro for a Podium
finish |
For the next three laps it was all out war between
Cafro and Mitchell as Mitchell would try for a pass
and Cafro would shut him down. Then in the last
lap, Cafro seemed to get his second wind. “I
went as hard as I could on that last lap and I was
able to put some distance between us, which was
a big relief,” said Cafro, who would hang
on to take the final spot on the podium.
Robbie Mitchell, who is no longer a part of the
DAT’s Racing team, was still looking good
aboard his Kawasaki as he rode one of his strongest
races in over a year. Mitchell went on to take
fourth for the day, which was his highest finish
since round five of 2008.
