Round #1 - Speed World

WORCS Racing ATV Race
Report
::Continued::
Can-Am's
Dillon Zimmerman claimed a Top 5 Finish
Can-Am Motoworks’ Dillon Zimmerman was looking
strong and consistent as he worked his way into
fourth place by lap four. Zimmerman would eventually
fall back to seventh at the mid way point of the
race, but a strong push from the rookie pro would
have him reclaiming the number five spot in his
tenth lap and hold that position all the way to
the finish line.
Justin Waters would put in a solid effort to
claim a sixth place finish, followed by Tim Shelman
in seventh. GNCC pros, Jeff Pickens and Andy Lagzdins
made the trek out west to get in a little pre
season practice with Pickens taking a respectable
eighth place with Lagzdins in eleventh. MCR/Maxxis
racer Josh Row would hang on for ninth place after
a nasty tangle with David Lindsay in the first
lap would put him almost a lap down and Ryan Piplic
would round out the top ten for round one.
#95
Justin Waters claimed a career best 6th
place finish in the Pro Class at SpeedWorld
followed by TPQ's Timmy Shelman, which was
his best finish since 2008, Congrats
GNCC
Racer, #115 Jeff Pickens made his WORCS
Racing debut with an 8th place finish even
though he stopped to help Josh Frederick
during the race
Can-Am's
Cole Henry made the long trip from Virginia
worth while to claim the Pro-Am class win
in his WORCS racing debut for Motoworks
In the Pro-am ranks, Cole Henry would make a strong
impression as he made his winning debut with the
Can-Am Motoworks team. Henry, who had been running
in the 450B class of the AMA ATV Motocross Championships
last year, was in the top five off the line and
took over the lead in lap two, where he would stay
all the way to the checkered flag.
Garrin Fuller would come on strong after a somewhat
slow start. Fuller charged all the way up from
eighth place to take over second by his eighth
lap, where he would stay until crossing the finish
line. Team MCR/Maxxis racers, Keith Johnson and
David Haagsma also came on strong as Johnson would
claim the final spot on the podium, with Haagsma
finishing in a close fourth, while Javier Robles,
Jr. would round out the top five.
Multi-time
GNCC Women's Champion, Traci Cecco, claimed
the WORCS Women's class win in a close battle
with Tammy Balser & Julie Russell
GNCC Women’s class racer Traci Cecco also
came out to give the WORCS series a try. Cecco showed
why she is one of the fastest women on four wheels
as she took an early lead and held it for the entire
race to take the Women’s A class win. 2009
WORCS Women’s champion, Tammy Balser kept
a steady pace behind Cecco to take a solid second
while MCR/Maxxis’ Julie Russell finished right
on Balser’s heels in third.
Round number two of the 2010 WORCS series will
head to Primm, Nevada at Buffalo Bill’s
on February 27th-28th. This will be the first
time the casino-resort has hosted the series,
which should have plenty of action as racers have
their first race jitters out of the way, and the
Pro ATV and motorcycles will race side by side
with both rounds running on the same weekend,
which should be exciting to watch.
