Arizona
received near record rain & snow this
past week before Round 1 of the WORCS Series

Surprise, AZ - The 2010 WORCS ATV
racing series kicked off its tenth season this past
weekend at Speedworld MX in Surprise, AZ and saw
MCR/Maxxis’ Beau Baron and Mike Cafro claim
the first and third positions on the Pro Podium,
while Can-Am Motoworks’ Josh Frederick claimed
the second spot, and the newest team member, Cole
Henry, claimed the Pro-am ATV win.
With several inches of rain falling throughout
the week, which caused flooding throughout Arizona
and record snow in the mountains, it left many
wondering if the race would go on, but race promoter,
Sean Reddish, was determined to overcome Mother
Nature since many traveled thousands of miles
to race, and after cancelling practice on Friday,
the racing started on time Saturday morning as
planned with the skies beginning to clear. By
Sunday, track conditions were near perfect as
racers lined up for the main event.

There
were several familiar faces missing for
the Pro ATV line-up this weekend for numerous
different reasons, and some will be back
later in the season while others may not
return, and here are some of those missing:
#501 Levi Marana was finally healed up,
but a failed transmission on his race quad
kept him out of the lineup, but he will
be back for round 2. Also, #8 John Shafe
wrecked on his mountain bike, which sidelined
him with an injured thumb, but he will also
make his debut at Primm. #3 Jeremie Warnia
is going to focus on racing motocross for
2010, so he was missing. #6 Doug Eichner
is also still recovering from his wreck
at Glen Helen, but he will be back on a
new KTM ride in the near future. #7 Jarrod
McClure is focusing on GNCC Racing for 2010
with his new Polaris ride since nearly all
the WORCS & GNCC races overlap this
year.

As the Pro ATV class charged into the first corner,
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson and MCR/Maxxis’
Beau Baron were tire to tire with the official
holeshot going to Nelson. 2009 WORCS Champ Baron
and Nelson battled back and forth for three laps
before Baron was able to get the pass on Nelson
and make it stick.
