WORCS Racing - Round 8 - Pro ATV Race Report
::Continued::

H&M Motorsports / Maxxis Tire’s David Haasgma matched his career best finish of second overall. Haasgma has a clean race. He got a good start and was able to make passes and charge into second spot. Haagsma maintained his spot for much of the race and at points was even able to gain on the leader, Baron.

Maxxis’ #422 David Haagsma charged his way past Nelson and Josh Frederick to take over the second spot, which Haagsma held to the checkered flag, which also secured Haagsma the third spot in series points just five points behind Frederick in second.

“I was trying to keep up with Beau (Baron), but he was running good, and I couldn’t catch him” stated Haagsma.

Haagsma finished in the third spot for year and only finished off the podium three times. He accredits his team and bike for such a good year. “Everything was running good: my Elka suspension, Maxxis tires, Curtis Sparks motor, Flexx Bars, everything. Also my team support, my parents, everyone that helped out” said Haagsma.

#94 Yamaha/Goldenwest Cycle’s Dustin Nelson had a roller coaster of a season. He took third overall for his third podium finish of the season. Nelson got off to a good start, but drifted wide and Baron was able to tuck to the inside and take off.

Nelson ran second for a bit until Haagsma was able to get around him during his pit. Nelson had plans to pass Haagsma when he stopped to pit, but a nasty section in the WORCS-X part of the track held him up. Nelson and a few Pro-Am racers got tangled over some logs and the holdup cost him his hope of catching Haagsma.

Yamaha's Dustin Nelson
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson has had his fair share of up and downs this year, but he came on strong in the season finale and secured the final spot on the Podium, which was his third podium finish of the year.

Nelson ended this season in the eighth spot, which is far from where he hoped for. “It was a tough season for sure, everyone’s too fast and too consistent to have the type of year that I did. I finished strong and on the podium and hopefully we’ll carry that momentum into the off season. I want to get our stuff worked out and come back strong for next season” said Nelson.

Claiming the fourth spot at Honolulu Hills was Motorworks/Can-Am’s Dillon Zimmerman. Zimmerman didn’t get the best of starts and was sitting around ninth spot on the corner. With mud being a factor during the first lap, Zimmerman kept his helmet down and made smart passes throughout the race. Zimmerman gained on Nelson by the final lap, but couldn’t catch him.

Motoworks / Can-Am's Dillon Zimmerman
Can-Am / DWT / Motoworks’ #49 Dillon Zimmerman charged his way past Josh Frederick early in the race and closed the gap on Nelson in the third spot down to just 13 seconds at the white flag, but Nelson was able to hold of Zimmerman in the final lap with Zimmerman finishing out the year in a solid fourth place in the race & pro season points.

The #49 Motorworks rider finished fourth for the season. “This year has been my best year. I’ve been racing a lot; I’ve been going back and forth to Italy and doing so much racing. It has helped me out a lot and I really felt good after this race. I wasn’t tired or anything. I am really happy about that and happy I was able to make the podium a few times. Hopefully next year I’ll be able to continue with the podium finishes” said Zimmerman.
