David Haagsma Wins WORCS Pro ATV Class

The heat for this round was almost unbearable with temps reaching 111 degrees, which caused half of the field in most classes to not finish their race due to either heat induced rider fatigue and/or mechanical issues.
This was the first time that officials had both the Pro and Pro-am classes line up and take off together, which was a little different for everyone, but the biggest issue was a course issue at the start. The Pro class was scheduled right after one of the mini classes and part of the course was still roped off, which caused racers to slow at the bottom of the big Glen Helen hill expecting to make the turn. The course issue and heat did not seem to matter much to David Haagsma as he got the holeshot and never looked back.

“It was a great day overall. I got a great jump off the gate and I could see a couple guys behind me and I could see Beau catching up to me a little. At the halfway point we stopped to pit and I knew I just needed to stay out front. It was tough to do because it was so hot out there and you really had to pace yourself or the heat would get to you so I am really happy to take the win today,” said Haagsma.

Beau Baron was one that got caught up in the
course routing issue at the beginning of the race
and fell back to fourth place. “They forgot
to change the course and I was setting up for
that hill and couldn’t get straightened
out in time and I got stuck behind Josh Row and
was getting pelted with rocks. He was also riding
really good, so it was hard to get around him,”
said Baron.
Despite the setback, Baron was able to make his
way around Row and charge into second place. “By
the time I caught back up to David, I just didn’t
have anything left. It was so hot out and I had
to work pretty hard to get around everyone. I
still finished in second and that means all I
have to do is finish at the final round and I
will have the championship wrapped up,”
said Baron, who took second on the Pro podium.
