2011 John Deere Gator XUV 825i

2013 John Deere Gator RSX 850i SxS / UTV Test Drive Review
::Continued::

The RSX850i comes equipped with Maxxis Bighorn tires and they performed incredibly well. We never encountered any issues or flats while out on our two day excursion. They helped take on the slick rock and the addition of the low end torque and wheel speed sensors were incredible for rock climbing.

“I really liked the wheel speed censors. It’s a great idea to help keep your axles safe,” said Mitchell.

The trails in Moab, Utah offer many challenging rock climbs & obstacles that put the 2013 John Deere RSX850i SxS to the test

The RSX is equipped with four-wheel independent suspension. This unique suspension setup provides an unparalleled ride over challenging terrain and excellent handling through corners. John Deere consulted with engineers from Formula 1, NASCAR and INDYCAR teams, and built a sport-tuned suspension system for class-leading operator comfort, no matter what the terrain, and handling that makes the RSX850i feel like it is on rails.

“It felt so stable. It never felt tippy or like it was going to roll at any point, even in tight turns or at high speeds,” Mitchell stated.

The John Deere Gator RSX 850i Sport SxS / UTV uses a wide arch A-arm design that allows for great wheel control and precise steering

The dual, wide arch A-arm design provides maximum front-wheel control, precise steering, and maximum ground clearance out to the wheel.  The 9 inches of travel provides ample compression and wheel extension, which helped to keep all four wheels on the ground for superior traction and vehicle control even on the toughest terrain we encountered.

John Deere RSX850i SxS - Fox Shocks

FOX aluminum-body, high-pressure monotube shocks come standard on the 2013 John Deere RSX850i SxS

The Gator RSX comes with exclusive FOX aluminum-body, high-pressure monotube shocks or you can upgrade to RSX tuned Fox 2.0 Performance Series piggyback shocks. The model we tested was equipped with the FOX piggy back shocks that greatly improved the comfort and ridability of the machine and soaked up plenty of bumps on our journey. The desert trails did get a bit choppy and that allowed us to give the FOX Shox a work out as well.

“I loved the suspension. It was smooth and predictable over everything and was very stable. Never once did I feel like it would roll or even felt close to it,” stated Robbie Mitchell.

One of the things we have always liked best about the Gator family is the incredible stability of these machines, and although the RSX850i is geared more toward the sporty aspect, John Deere has brought that stability forward to this line. The low center of gravity, wide stance and even weight distribution make it feel incredibly safe out on the trails and in tight turns.
