2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000

2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000 Review
::Continued::

We noticed that with the longer wheel base you had to ease into jumps a bit more, but the Polaris RZR XP4 1000 flew level and very well. The longer wheel base really shined through when we took a high speed trip down Sand Highway. This particular stretch of the dune area is notorious for its whooped out conditions and is a true test of any suspension. The Polaris RZR XP4 1000 handled the whoops with ease. The longer 117” wheel base really made it feel stable and allowed us to go faster than we normally would have especially compared to a 2 seat RZR with a shorter wheelbase.

The Polaris RZR XP 4 1000 is plenty well capable of catching some air!

The electronic fuel injected 999cc 4-stoke, DOHC engine kicks out 107 HP, which was plenty of power to go up the tallest dunes and have a great time. Polaris did retune the clutch for the RZR XP4 1000 in order to accommodate extra weight and it worked great with three adult men in the vehicle.

We found that low gear, which has a top speed of about 30MPH, was the best for climbing the more technical dunes, and we used high gear when we could carry some speed because otherwise you will heat up your belts, and since our RZR XP4 UTVs didn’t have many hours on the belt, we wanted to make sure we broke in the belt, so it wouldn’t break prematurely if abused in the initial few hours of driving. Impressively, the RZR climbed up nearly everything we pointed it at in low gear and four wheel drive as the Polaris RZR XP4 1000 felt unstoppable in the Glamis sand dunes

We were able to carve the dunes easily in the 2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000

We decided to hit some of the bowls out at Glamis to see how well the machine would handle and it performed very well. We carved many bowls and had a great time. The Polaris RZR XP4 1000 felt stable and not once did it feel tippy.

Electronic Power Steering makes steering effortless in the 2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000

While the standard two-seater RZR is quite nimble in turns, we did notice that the XP4 does have a slightly larger turning radius due to the extended wheel base, but it was not a very substantial difference and we were able to maneuver any terrain we chose. The standard power steering made the machine fun to drive and helped keep any fatigue to a minimum.

The Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires provided plenty of grip in the soft sand dunes
