2008 Polaris Outlaw 450MXR & 525S ATV Press Intro - Test Ride

Suspension:

The rear shock compression adjustment is easy done by removing the seat
The 450MXR comes standard with FOX racing podium X piggy back compression adjustable shocks in the front which provide 10” of wheel travel were as the 525S comes standard with FOX podium non reservoir shocks in the front that also allow for 10“ of wheel travel. Both units come standard with FOX podium X fully adjustable piggy back shock in the rear that provides 11” of rear wheel travel. The front ends consists of a dual A arm design that measures 47” in width and is controlled by Polaris’s patented Pro steering system which is designed to reduce if not eliminate bump steer. The Pro steering system works by moving the pivot point of the tie rods closer to the pivot point of the A-arms allowing both the tie rods and a-arms to move in the same arc. The Rear suspension consists of an all new no link swing arm solid axle design that measures 47” in width and is coupled to a single Fox podium X fully adjustable shock.

Engine:
The Outlaw 525 S and the Outlaw 450MXR engines are identical in every way except for the bore size. They both are powered by a powerful KTM built engine. The 525 S actually measures 510cc and the 450MXR measure 448cc, which is only a 62cc difference between the pair. Each engine comes with electric start and five speed transmission with reverse. Fuel is delivered by the industry leading 39mm Keihin FCR carburetor, this carburetor is equipped with TPS (throttle position sensor) which allows the CDI unit to adjust the timing for maximum power output. Air is fed to the carburetor through a newly designed compact air box that features a high flow foam filter and a high flow vented air box lid.

The Outlaw models all come standard with steel braded brake lines and dual piston front calipers. The easy to use front hydraulic parking brake is set by squeezing the front brake lever and actuating the lever stop. The clutch system is a Magura hydraulic unit that provides a light consistent pull along with a lever that is adjustable for reach. The reverse gear is engaged via a convenient right side thumb operated lever. Reverse can be engaged by pulling the clutch lever in while in first gear, press the reverse thumb lever, and depress the shift lever down into reverse.

Drive:
The Outlaw models both come standard with Maxxis Razr tires. The 525S utilizes a 21x7x10 Maxxis Razr PR front and a 20x11x9 Maxxis Razr PR rear. The Outlaw 450MXR utilizes a smaller 20x6x10 Maxxis Razr MX on the front and a 18x10x9 Maxxis Razr MX on the rear. In an effort to further the durability of the drive system of the Outlaws Polaris uses Douglas yellow label rolled edge rim on all for corners of each of the models. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 520 O-ring chain. Polaris has made chain adjustment easy by utilizing a round housing eccentric bearing carrier.
