For our second day at Gunsite, we had a chance
to check out some of the 2,000 acres of range
property with a ride around the facility on the
Yamaha SE Tactical Black Grizzly 700 Utility ATV
and Rhino 700 SxS. As expected from Yamaha, these
machines both provide a confidence inspiring ride,
and with some rain showers through-out the day,
I was really pleased with the mud protection the
fenders provide on the Grizzly 700 utility ATV.

Before
our tactical target shooting, we drove
around the 2,000 acre Gunsite facility
in the Yamaha Grizzly 700 Utility ATV
& Rhino 700 SxS SE Tactical Black
units |
 |
We
drove the Yamaha Grizzly 700 Tactical
SE Utility ATV through a wash & shot
at hidden targets & I am happy to
say that I hit all the targets, but it
didn't happen in one shot, but I gained
more confidence with the Ruger SR-9c pistol |
Now that we were familiar with everything, it
was time to do some tactical training with the
Yamaha Grizzly 700 and Rhino 700, so the media
was broke up into a couple of groups, and my group
headed down to the wash area with targets scattered
along a several hundred yard stretch in the wash,
and I drove the Yamaha Grizzly with the Ruger
SR-9c pistol through the wash and looked for these
hidden targets, and the Gunsite staff did a great
job of trying to hide our targets.
The goal of the course was to shoot each target
with two shots and utilize the Yamaha Grizzly
as cover when shooting at the target. The targets
were scattered around at different distances,
which made it even more interesting, and I am
sorry to say that I didn’t hit every target
in less than two shots with the pistol, but
I had a blast doing it regardless, and I received
some valuable feedback from my instructor on
properly holding and aiming the pistol.
|
For the start of day three, I started
out with the Ruger pistol shooting at
metal targets |
 |
After struggling
some with the pistol, I was right at home
with the Ruger SR-556 rifle on the scramble
course |
On day three, we resumed with our tactical training,
and I started out the day with some target shooting
with the Ruger SR-9c pistol, and my aim had improved,
but I still have plenty of room for improvement,
but once we made the switch to the Ruger SR-556
rifle, I was nearly dead on every time, and I
couldn’t wait to do the Scramble course
where you run from station to station and shoot
at targets at various distances up to over 100
yards with the open sites, and I am happy to say
that I hit all the targets and finished the course
in 51 seconds on my third attempt, and I would
have been happy to do it again and see if I could
improve upon my time even more because I had the
third fastest time.
Next up was a team ride in the Tactical Black
SE Yamaha Rhino 700 SxS with the Ruger SR-556
rifle, and there was a driver and shooter for
this course. We would drive down the trail and
when we spotted a target, we would get out of
the Yamaha Rhino and engage the target with
the SR-556 auto-loading rifle while utilizing
the Rhino for cover protection.
The Ruger SR-556 was loaded and unloaded for
each target since it wouldn’t be safe
riding in the Rhino with a loaded gun or any
vehicle, so this provided great training on
quickly loading and unloading your weapon, and
once again, I hit every target even one at 135
yards, which had me grinning ear to ear, since
I felt redeemed my subpar shooting with the
pistol, which is still a work in progress.
I must say this was one of the most enjoyable
ride events that I have ever attended because
of the cross over with the tactical gun training.
I have enjoyed hunting since a teenager, but
I rarely have the opportunity to go hunting
anymore with my travel schedule, so getting
the chance to shoot again has given me the itch
to really try to make some time for hunting
this fall, and for any shooting enthusiast,
I highly recommend the new Tactical SE Yamaha
Grizzly and Rhino especially with the wide range
of accessory available directly from Yamaha.
