Chris Borich Championship Interview

Chris Borich Championship Interview
::Continued::

ATVriders.com: How’s it feel? Six in a row.
Chris Borich: It definitely feels good. I wanna keep going and obviously things are going to be a little tougher, but we hit a bunch of bad luck, and we could of possibly wrapped it up a little earlier but I think it was a good for the sport to see it come down to the final race like that, but I’m going to try to not let it ever happen like that again! (laughs).

ATVriders.com: Is your goal to chase down Bill’s nine championships?
Chris Borich: I never really had a goal to chase down his championships, I’m just going to take one year at a time. Bill was holding the ATV win record and Barry was holding the all-time win record and to pass that by four or five wins now is huge to me. I’m pretty pumped about that and if we can keep racking up these wins and championships, I’ll be pretty happy with that too.

ATVriders.com: How was it at your final round to have your good friend Chad Wienen in the mix for his first GNCC?
Chris Borich: It definitely was a lot of fun just knowing he was there. We got to be good friends over the winter and I think we got a lot closer as my season went on and we’d talk to each other. Obviously he wrapped up his championship, and I just told him to come on out here and run his race and have fun with it and to be honest with you, I wasn’t really having a lot of fun at those last couple of races towards the end, with the rear brakes getting sketchy on me and then my one contact getting knocked out at the one race, it just wasn’t fun at all. I talked to him and he was out riding and getting ready for the Ironman and it gave me a lot of motivation to ride and go for the win.

Chris Borich's friend and 3x ATV Motocross Champion Chad Wienen lined up to race his first GNCC the Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, IN

ATVriders.com: Were you surprised at how well Chad Wienen finished?
Chris Borich: Yeah actually! I was figuring him for a top 10 guy, and I asked him what he was expecting and he said if he could get a podium he’d be super pumped or to get a top 5 he’d be really happy, but realistically if I can get a top 10 I’d be super happy. He was able to finish in eighth place and with that being his first ever GNCC that was awesome! It was a huge accomplishment for him and I think it helped him out for a racer, and for him to do that and all of the people that come out to watch it gave him a lot of exposure as well.

To much surprise, Chad Wienen finished eighth out of seventeen seasoned GNCC Pro Racers at the Ironman GNCC

ATVriders.com: Oh for sure! This winter, are you planning on training with Chad Wienen again this year?
Chris Borich: Yeah me and him, and hopefully the whole crew will be down there and rip it up again! Like I said, he won multiple championships, and I gotta win my championships and we just keep pushing each other. His wife and my fiancĂ© have become pretty good friends as well and it’s been a good time.

ATVriders.com: Now that the season is over, what are your plans for the next couple of months?
Chris Borich: I’m just working on bikes now and took a few days off and have just been goofing off on my pit bikes and a few pit bike ATV’s and relaxing and working on finishing some bikes up. The Winter is coming soon and it’s gonna be cold and hopefully will be outta here by December and get down to Florida and get settled in, come home for Christmas and then back down South for the New Year and start pushing hard then.

ATVriders.com: How about your sponsors for next season? Are you sticking to the same ones or any new big changes coming?
Chris Borich: Maxxis Tires, for sure is our big one and we have that one already set up for next season, and we’ve been talking to a bunch of others and the same ones we’ve had that want to be on board, so it’s pretty much the same deal. I don’t really like to change much, and I like to be loyal to my sponsors as they are loyal to me, and backing me up for as many years as they have, so we’ll pretty much be on the same board and we are happy with that.
