Chris Borich Championship Interview

Chris Borich Championship Interview
6x GNCC Racing Pro ATV Champion Chris Borich

Crawfordsville, IN (10/31/2014) - Recently clinching his sixth GNCC Racing Pro ATV Championship, Chris Borich put on what was arguably one of the most exciting finishes to date in the GNCC Racing Series at the Ironman GNCC Season finale in Crawfordsville, IN. After accumulating five wins in the first half of the season, Borich experienced some bad luck in the later half of the season, which meant it would come down to the final round of the season to decide the 2014 GNCC Racing Champion. With all eyes on the pair of racers, Chris Borich make the last minute pass and would cross the finish line just .203 seconds ahead of Walker Fowler holding on to his number one plate while earning his sixth champioinship!

ATVriders.com: With the Ironman GNCC coming down to a tie with Fowler, and it being the last race of the season, what was your thoughts coming into this race with the championship on the line?
Chris Borich: We had three weeks heading into that race, and I knew what I had to do, and I just had to try to get on the board and do it. I needed to be in my best shape and also the machine as well, we needed to make it as bulletproof as possible. I knew he is a sprinter, and he would like to get away at the beginning and just run his own race, but I knew I wasn’t going to let him out of my sights. I almost thought it was going to happen, I had a bad start, back in like twelfth place and I just made a couple quick passes and just chopped my position down to make sure he couldn’t get away.

ATVriders.com: Walker Fowler had the momentum coming into the Ironman with three straight win, and you hadn’t won a race in a couple months. Was that on your mind with you questioning if you were going to make it happen on the final race?
Chris Borich: Yeah, I mean it did a little bit and you got people on the internet talking and on social media, saying I’m kind of “washed up” and “this is the new kid on the block” and all that kind of stuff you know, so it kind of had me fired up, and I came into the second half of the season feeling really good on the bike, but I just had a string of bad luck for those three races. Coming to Ironman and knowing that I can do it. Getting back on the bike and winning and getting back into the swing of things was awesome.

ATVriders.com: it didn’t come easy for you for the entire race and you actually didn’t gain the lead until literally just before the finish line. Can you tell us how that all came about?
Chris Borich: Yeah, we popped out onto the moto track, and I knew what I had to do and stay right on him coming onto there, so I was pretty much scraping the back of his wheels. A lap prior to where I passed him at there was kind of a bad kicker down in there at the bottom of the one jump before you come up and hit the one triple, and it kicked me sideways and I lost my momentum on that lap. I was behind him again heading into that same section on the last lap, and he was protecting the inside and heading right for that same spot, and he hit it the same way I did and it kicked him sideways and it gave me enough drive to go around the outside of him and kind of double and wheelie out. I came out of the one corner there and about lost it with the back end coming out and we went side by side into the next section there up over the jump and I had the inside there and from that point I pretty much knew I had the lead through the switch backs.

Known for taking over the lead late into the race, Chris Borich stayed true to his moniker and made the pass for the lead in the last corner before the finish

ATVriders.com: How exciting was that for you to take that checkered flag and win your sixth straight GNCC Pro Championship?
Chris Borich: I was pretty pumped about it! I mean, that’s my ultimate goal is to win races and win championships. We had a pretty good lead heading into the Summer break and then to just have all that bad luck, it was pretty bad and to come away with the championship again is a huge thing. And like I said, reading some of the stuff on social media and stuff like that, people kind of putting me down, it actually really fired me up and I was just ready to race and go for it
