Joel Hetrick began racing quads when he was
just four years old in a local circuit aboard
a Suzuki LT80 and has had amazing success
over the last twelve years, taking seven youth
championships, but the real turning point
in his career came just a few weeks ago at
round number six of the AMA ATV Motocross
Championships.
Hetrick has been a top contender in every
class he has raced, but at round six of Nationals,
he raised the bar yet again by going 1-1 to
take the overall win in the Pro-am Unlimited
class, a finish that surprised even him. “I
was hoping for a podium, but to go out there
and take the win like that was just really
exciting for me. I think I made the right
decision to move up. It’s a whole different
class of riders in the Pro-am class. It’s
really competitive and everyone is really
fast,” said Hetrick.
Even though he has won numerous youth championships,
Hetrick insists that nothing tops his Pro-am
Unlimited win. “Winning in Pro-am Production
at Steel City was definitely the highlight
for me. It kind of helped me to confirm that
I made the right choice to move up and really
gave me a big boost in confidence,”
said the number 88 Kawasaki rider.

Hetrick has been doing a lot of extra training
this year and attributes some of his increase
in speed to friend and fellow racer Cody Gibson.
“Cody and I ride together a lot and
he has showed me a lot of things and helped
me out. Riding with him has really helped
me to be better out on the track,” Hetrick
explained.

Class at Unadilla |
After Hetrick success at Steel City, he also
tried his hand at the Pro-am Production class
at Unadilla and went an amazing 2-2 to take
second overall behind Cody Gibson. Hetrick
plans to finish out the Production A class
but is also going to be competing in the Pro-am
Production as well. Hetrick’s future
plans include racing the Pro-am Production
class full time next season and also possibly
the Pro-am Unlimited.
With the support of Kawasaki Monster Energy
and his family, Joel Hetrick is one of the
most prospective up and coming riders in the
Nationals and with his championship record,
could quite possibly be a top in next year’s
Pro-am Production class.
