Thomas Brown Interview

Thomas Brown Interview
::Continued

ATVriders.com: How competitive does it get between you and Chad Wienen? He’s got the number one plate and that’s what you’re chasing after
Thomas Brown: It gets intense at times, we are both going after the same thing and working hard at it, we both want to beat each other. I want to win. I want that number one plate, and he wants it, and we are gonna duke it out, but at the end of the day, we push each other to new limits. The ending of last season with the win, it was my best season, Chad had a dominate year. I plan to not let Wienen be so dominate this year, and mix it up with him some more and maybe come home with the championship.

ATVriders.com: Now is your program pretty much the same as last year? Any new sponsors or anything different?
Thomas Brown: The program stayed pretty much the same as last year. We haven’t changed much at all and Wienen has done a great job with lining everything up for everyone. The main components are still all the same; we have FMF, CP Carillo, Malaska doing all of the motors, CV4 doing all of our valves, the motor package is huge and our suspension has not changed either with the Walsh / Fox setup, it’s the best in the business, no doubt about it, we proved that last year, and I think we’re planning on proving it again.

ATVriders.com: At the TQRA race you in Texas, you ended up pulling off the win in the Pro-Am class?
Thomas Brown: Yeah you know we went out there to do a little testing and Natalie was throwing down some awesome laps. We just went to do some testing and trying to keep our noses clean and to put in a good weekend and stay healthy. We were there for that and with Natalie putting in super good laps we were all over the back end of him and on the last lap he snapped an axle and kind of just gave me the win. I can’t take too much credit from him, but it was cool to get a win in the home state of Texas and the local series, and it’s always good to come away with a win and I’m hoping to hit up a few more of them and ultimately just get ready for round one in Georgia.

ATVriders.com: So Thomas, this is your first time riding out here in Glamis.
Thomas Brown: Yeah, first time out here. It’s definitely a different experience and different than any other dunes I’ve been too so I’m pretty pumped! It’s pretty cool, they are monstrous and tons of fun just riding around on a stock Yamaha, they are quite the trip out here, I gotta say. I’ve only been on race quads with paddles, and to be on a stock ATV out here, I can’t believe how much fun it is.

ATVriders.com: You’ve ridden on dunes before, I’m sure at Little Sahara?
Thomas Brown: Yeah I’ve ridden at Little Sahara in Oklahoma an it’s like the small dunes here are the big dunes out there and its different you know. We do a lot more jumping out there and we try to find more jumps but here it’s more cruising around from dune to dune. It’s different and being a motocross rider, I like to do my jumping but this ‘cruising around stuff’ I’m getting used to it and the flow of it and I’m starting to have a really good time.

ATVriders.com: What did you think of China Wall at the Glamis Dunes?
Thomas Brown: China Wall is big! I showed up there, the first day here and Travis and Dustin took me out there. We all sat at the bottom and one of them took off and shifted like three gears up there and I was like ‘whoa, I didn’t think it was that far up there’ and then they downshifted once and then another time and they’re still going up it and it really proved how big it was! The first time I tried it was intense, and I dont even remember if I made it or not, but it’s definitely a struggle to get to the top, and you gain a lot more respect for it.
