Casto Canyon ATV Adventure Ride - Bryce, Utah

Casto Canyon ATV Adventure Ride - Bryce, Utah
::Continued::

If you plan on riding at Casto Canyon be sure that your ATV or SxS has a width no wider than 50 inches. Even before you enter Casto Canyon Trail you have to fit though two post that are just a hair wider than the legal width of 50 inches. These trails at Casto Canyon are not your typical shared logging trails.

Casto Canyon features many Hoodoo rock formations that are very abundant in the very popular tourist attraction Bryce Canyon, which is located just minutes down the road

As we started the trail down into Casto Canyon I thought back to the last time I was out here in this area at Bryce Canyon. On our way to the Las Vegas airport we turned off onto a random a dirt road that had a sign that read Casto Canyon OHV Staging Area. The road was nothing spectacular; we didn’t see much that caught our eye besides the road being muddy.  After what seemed like a couple miles of almost breaking the rental car agreement by covering the vehicle in mud from top to bottom we decided to make a U turn as we still had to catch our flight that same day.

There is a nice staging area that is only a few miles off the highway that features trail maps, restrooms, & loading ramps

Little did I know, that this road was one of two ways to get to possibly the most scenic trail you will ever ride. If we would have went another mile there is a nice staging area with bathrooms and man made loading ramps. If you trailer in your ATVs it is suggest just parking along the highway and riding your ATVs in as the road is almost three miles long and can be easily cover on an ATV faster than trying to navigate by truck.

However, on this trip we were starting at the opposite end of the Canyon Trail that connected to the Fremont Trail. Casto Canyon is only 5.5 miles long but it can take you almost an hour or more to travel the full length if you take in all the scenery.

There is a variety of geology & terrain in Casto Canyon & that can be seen on the trail

The trail leading down into Casto Canyon begins on white crushed rock similar to the ground at Peterson Pointe. It then zigzags through several small creek crossings and then the trail opens up just enough to take everything in. A combination of red rock hoodoos and sand stone rock formations will tug your eyes in every direction. It was like a visual overload! I knew then this was a trail to take it easy and just enjoy the ride. You do not want to go fast on this trail as I found it hard “to keep your eyes where you’re going”.

There are many dry creek beds that the trail funs across most of the year, but you have to keep an eye on the weather as the dry creek beds can fill up very quickly in a storm
