Sand Hollow State Park OHV Area SxS / UTV Adventure Ride Part 1
::Continued::
After winding our way through the desert we came upon a large dune section. I was amazed how big some of the dunes were. It reminded me of the Glamis sand dunes, but with a few large boulders thrown in the mix. Some of the dunes were so tall, the modified Teryx SxS had some troubles climbing the hills with the added weight of the aftermarket shocks and rear seats. Although there was enough room to back down the dunes, there were several situations were the terrain got a little sketchy and it would take some skill to navigate.

The sand dunes at Sand Hollow State Park are a favorite of both ATV & SxS Riders |
On one particular occasion Harlen was scouting to find us a new spot to take photos when we came upon one of the roughest sections I have encountered on a UTV. Because Sand Hollow doesn’t have any kind of trail markers, we had no idea what kind of trail we were on, nor the level of difficulty. The trail led us down a narrow section of rocky hillside that ran parallel to one of Sand Hollow State Park’s many cliffs. Harlen had the UTV in four-wheel-drive and had the diff-lock set for rock crawl we were about to attempt. There was no turning back as the front wheels of the side-by-side dropped down over the rock ledge.

For the most part, the trails at Sand
Hollow State Park OHV Area farily tame but be prepared to come across a rugged trail without warning, as the trails are unmarked |
Harlen quickly had the SxS on three wheels and called me over to add extra weight to the vehicle. I had to hang off the side of the SxS / UTV to ensure we got over the rock safely.
