Macon,
GA (4/9/2015) –
The first round of amateur racing kicked off with
high intensity and energy at round one of the 2015
Mt. Dew AMA ATV Motocross Championships and Echeconnee
in Lizella, Georgia where Joe Byrd Riding School’s
Vital Cazenave clinched the pro-am win with Root
River Racing’s Dylan Tremellen in second and Yamaha
mounted Nick Gennusa in third.
Anticipation was high for this round and everyone
was excited for the season opener, and while Saturday’s
races went well, Mother Nature had other plans
for Sunday. Heavy rains fell and caused officials
to cancel Sunday’s classes, using Saturday’s finishes
for final results, which worked out well for some
racers, but not so much for others, who did not
get a chance to redeem themselves with a second
moto.
In the Pro-am class, Joe Byrd protégé’ Vital
Cazenave took an early lead and checked out. Cazenave
increased his lead with every lap and claimed
the moto win by over 14 seconds ahead of second
place.
Root River Racing’s Dylan Tremellen made an impressive
pro-am debut, despite getting last on the gate
pick. Tremellen was second off the start and was
soon battling with Cam Covil. Tremellen continued
to fight and caught a break when Covil encountered
issues. From there it was smooth sailing for Tremellen
as he crossed the finish line in second place.
“It’s kind of a mental game making the switch
to Pro-am this season and I was kind of nervous,
but I was able to do well and I am really happy
with my finish,” said Tremellen.
Nick Gennusa, who is pulling double duty in the
pro and pro-am classes, was toward the back of
the pack off the start but made an incredible
charge up to fourth place. Once in fourth, he
battled it out with Brett Musick and made the
pass I the final lap to round out the pro-am podium.
Brett Musick put in a solid run and claimed a
fourth place finish, while Root River Racing’s
Sam Rowe rounded out the top five.
Tyler Hamrick rode a consistent race and finished
in sixth, with Nicolas Cavigliasso taking seventh.
Wes Lewis came up from 11th off the start to finish
in 8th place, with Argentinian racer, Pablo Vera
taking 9th and Cole Sepesi rounded out the top
ten.
