Round #3 - Links

Delevan, NY (6/27/2014) – Round three of the 2014 Extreme Dirt Track series saw Brooks Williams take his first ever win in the Pro-am class, while Brad Riley took home his first Pro win of the season at Freedom Speedway in Delevan, NY.

This was the first time the series has been hosted at the Freedom Speedway in western New York. The weather was sunny and warm with a little wind, which dried out the track considerably. The course itself was fairly short, with about 30 second lap times, which did not afford many passing opportunities, so a good start was the key to a good finish for this round.

Harold Goodman Pro-Am Holeshot

2013 Pro Champion, Harold Goodman was aware of this and grabbed the holeshot off the start in the  Pro-am main, with Brooks Williams close on his heels. Williams went for the pass in the first turn and took the lead. Goodman tried to counter in the next corner, but lost control of his ATV and flipped. The crash resulted in Goodman breaking his wrist. The red flag was flown and racers lined up for a restart, but unfortunately, this is more than likely the end of the season for Goodman.

Unfortunately, Harold Goodman came off his ATV which resulted in breaking his wrist. Even being in pain, Goodman was still able to crack a smile in the ambulance

On the restart for the Pro-am main, Brooks Williams was on fire as he grabbed the holeshot and led from start to finish, giving him his first ever Pro-am win.

“Well we took off and I launched really good for the first time this year. I turned my head and I saw Goodman hitting the ground and I was thinking ‘oh man they are going to red flag it, and I was worried if I was going to be able to do it again, but my Hoosiers hooked great and they took me to the first corner in first place again, and I stayed there for the rest of the fifteen laps. This is my first time on the box and this is crazy for me because the highest I’ve ever been was sixth or seventh place before this and I’ve been running Pro and Pro-Am for three or four years now,” said Williams.

Although passing opportunities were limited for this round, Chuckie Creech was one of the racers who figured it out and had a strong showing in the Pro-am class. Creech was in fourth behind Brad Riley and Brian Ace and he knew that was not where he wanted to be.

“You know I was trying everything I could, and I came into this berm, and I hit it really hard. Nobody was hitting it, and I figured If I hit it enough maybe it would start coming to me, and evidently it did, and I was able to make the pass. We were going back and forth and Brad Riley is a guy when he’s behind you, he’s going to pass you and when he’s in front of you, you can’t pass him, and I felt really good being able to get by him. I may not have won the race but that was big for me,” said Creech.
