Yamaha’s Brandon Sommers XC1 debut season
has been hot! The young Ohio resident has been
dominating every class he has run in for the past
four years winning championship in the C, B, A,
and Pro-Am Classes as he worked his way up through
the ranks, but his jump to the XC1 Pro ATV class
would be his biggest challenge.
The opening round in Florida would see him
run to the checkers and take home 6th place
but it was at round 2 where he broke new ground
as he climbed atop the Pro Podium for the first
time by claiming the third spot. Sommers theology
behind training is simple, race, race and race,
which is what he has done each weekend for what
seems like forever. At Big Buck we would see
Sommers back on the Podium claiming yet another
3rd place finish. At rounds 7 and 9, Sommers
would move it up a notch by taking 2nds in both
events, with the latter telling the tale as
he missed the win by only 1 second at Mountain
Ridge behind Chris Borich! Sommer’s rookie
season has him sitting in 3rd in points, only
2 point out of 2nd, quite a testament to his
ability during his rookie season!

- #2 Chris Borich - Factory Suzuki LTR-450
ATV - 157 Pts. |
Leaving the 2007 season with the number 2 plate,
and knowing that the season should have been his
if not for a brake issues at Sparta and the mistake
that cost him dearly at Powerline Park, Chris
Borich sat at the controls of what many felt was
his destiny to be crowned the 2008 champion. He
had proven he could run with anyone, had shown
great growth as a rider in his ability to make
smart decisions as he swept away his past mistakes
and was holding the reigns on his new Factory
Suzuki LT-R450 ride as the green flag waved at
“The Trtion” GNCC season opener. Borich
went on to win the opening round convincingly,
however he hadn’t been able to put together
another winning race until round 9 although a
solid 2nd was to be his at Loretta Lynn’s.
Chris Borich has continually stated there have
been a myriad of reasons for his less then stellar
finishes this season as he adapts to his new Suzuki
Quad Racer, but after his rise to the top at “The
Mountain Ridge” GNCC, Borich has his confidence
back, and feels he has finally worked out all
the bugs that has plagued him this season. With
only a 34 points separating Borich from the points
lead, he is as determined as ever to come out
swinging in the final four rounds of the season,
and Borich has a proven track record on coming
on strong after the summer break in the past.
Borich isn’t alone in his pursuit to
reel in Ballance for the championship as Bryan
Cook, Brandon Sommers, Chris Borich, and Adam
McGill are separated by just a few points, so
every finish in the final four rounds will be
critical and one mistake by any of them will
quickly take them out of the championship chase
with Bill Ballance sitting comfortably in the
drivers seat at the moment, but one bad race
will surely open the door for any one of these
fierce competitors
