round four of the 2009 WORCS series, with series
champ, Josh Frederick having to settle for second
                              after a couple of crashes.

MCR's Beau Baron claims his 1st Win for
2009 | The series returned to Honey Lake MX Park where
racers were treated to overcast skies, cool temps
and even a little rain, which is not the norm
for the southern CA rounds. The light rain that
fell before the race helped to keep the dust to
a minimum and made for almost perfect conditions.
The track itself consisted of rocky trails that
were a bit narrow for passing in some areas and
a pretty mellow motocross section that was a prime
place if racers wanted to get around slower riders,
which Beau Baron took full advantage of.

Baron took over the lead in the 5th lap
& held it to the checkered flag to secure
the win & close the gap on Josh Frederick
in the points lead to 18 points | Beau was sixth off the start, but by the end
of the first lap he had gained two positions and
was shadowing Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson. “I
didn’t want Dustin to get too far ahead
of me because he would be tough to catch. I was
doing a good job of staying with him until we
caught up to Sage Baker,” said Baron. Baron
had some difficulty getting around Baker, but
once he did, he quickly caught back up to Nelson.
“I caught up to Dustin and went for the
pass in the whoop section,” Baron said. Baron began to pull away, but not far behind
him was Josh Frederick, who was making up time.
“Josh caught up to me in the creek bed so
I just pinned it hoping to hold him off, and when
I looked back, he wasn’t there,” explained
Baron. Baron went on to take the win, his first
of the season, which has him sitting comfortably
in second place of the points chase.
Can-Am MotoWorks’ Josh Frederick had some
issues off the start. Josh was deep in the pack
off the start and was pushing hard to get through
traffic. I came up on a slower rider and when
we went into a corner, he hit the brakes before
I was expecting it,” said Frederick.

Josh Frederick was able to overcome an early
race wreck to charge his way back into the
2nd spot while recording the fastest laptime
of the race in Lap 6. Frederick charge secured
his 4th straight podium finish as he continues
to hold the points lead with 115 points | Unfortunately, Frederick was going to fast to
stop and ran into the back of the other rider
and flipped. Frederick was unhurt and got back
on track and began a hard charge to the front
and recorded the fastest lap time of the race
in lap six with a time of 08:31.6. All was going
well for Frederick until he caught up to Beau
Baron in a creek bed. “I was going all out
and trying to catch Beau and I ended up catching
a rut with my front tire,” said Frederick
who went cartwheeling. Again, Frederick was uninjured
but his quad was pretty banged up. “Luckily
it was still running for the last lap so I got
back on and kept going,” he concluded. Frederick
had a big enough lead on third place that he did
not lose any positions and crossed the finish
                                line in second place. |
