Doug Eichner has missed the final 2 rounds
of racing due to serious wreck at Glen Helen
during the WORCS practice |
Even though he was seriously injured at round seven,
Polaris’ Doug Eichner still finished in the
top ten in the points standings in the Pro ATV class,
and his team took the championship in the UTV Class
Two. Eichner is still recovering from his injuries
but plans to race next season. “I’m
an ornery old guy, so this won’t keep me down,”
said Eichner, who was in good spirits when we spoke
to him by phone.
The outpouring of support for Eichner after his
accident was astounding. “I received over
2000 voice mails and text messages after my crash
and I’ve have gotten tons of cards and flowers
from fans and friends. It’s really amazing
to have that kind of support,” he said.
It is still uncertain if Eichner will be recovered
in time for the first round, but he is staying
optimistic and taking things day by day. “I’m
healing slowly but surely, so we’ll see
what happens,” he said.
David Haagsma was free to check out on the competition
in the Pro-am class. Haagsma took the lead and
never looked back, finishing with over a four
minute lead ahead of second place Garrin Fuller.
Ron Heath would hold his ground to take third
while Javier Robles, Jr. would finish in fourth
and Keith Carinalli would pilot his KTM to round
out the top five.

Tammy Balser swept the WORCS Women's A Class
in 2009 to secure the Championship |
Tammy Balser went on to take her eighth straight
win and finish 2009, not only with the championship,
but also with a perfect season in the Women’s
A class. Julie Russell put on an impressive performance,
finishing just a few seconds behind Balser to take
second, while Sadie Bender would round out the top
three for the day.
Now that the season is over, many racers will
be taking a little time off before they head back
out to start training, but that time off will
be short lived as the 2010 WORCS season kicks
off in just over three months with the first round
scheduled for January 23-24th at Speed World in
Surprise, AZ.
