Race Report
::Continued::
In SXS 1000, Maxxis’ Payton Mills, Chris Mill’s
son, dominated the race, grabbing the holeshot
and never looking back. Jared Blitz was second
ahead of points leader Randy Romo.

Addict
Racing's Payton Mills secured his 2nd win
of the season, which now has him just 5
points behind SxS 1000 class leader, Randy
Romo |
“I got into the first corner and pulled away,”
said Mills. “As soon as I got out to the desert,
that’s when I started pulling away. Those Addict
Engines and Joe Owens Motorsports are really helping
me out.”
In the SXS Women Class, Sierra Romo won her second
consecutive race and extended her points lead.
Thirteen-year-old Amanda Sorensen was second,
followed by Danielle Weatherly, Jennifer Broughton
and Claudia Romo. Sierra Romo took the lead from
Katie Vernola early in the event before Vernola
fell out with mechanical issues.

GSP's
Sierra Romo secured her 2nd straight win
to extend her lead in the SxS Women's class
to 6 points over defending champion, Danielle
Weatherly |
“I had a great battle with Katie Vernola,” said
Romo. “She went into a corner too hot, and I swooped
around. I’m so excited. I’m first in points so
this is just one more win on top of it. I’ve gotten
a lot better than the beginning of the year. I
feel great.”
Sorensen is undaunted by racing women nearly
twice her age at only thirteen years old. With
confidence that belies her age, she notched her
best ever WORCS finish. She also finished second
in the Youth SXS race.

Amanda
Sorensen secured a career best 2nd place
in the WORCS Women's SxS class at Iron Mine
Race Park |
“I started second and I drove pretty hard,” said
Sorenson. “It was difficult with the dust. I love
the motorcross track because I like the jumps.
It’s pretty exciting to go into the break with
a podium finish. It will help me with my future
in racing, getting an early start.”
Jen Broughton raced Collins Webster’s car to
a fourth-place finish. She sits third in points
going into the summer break.

DWT's
Jen Broughton finished in fourth place,
which now has her third place in points |
“Collins decided not to race in SXS, so I decided
to drive his car,” said Broughton. “I was third
off the start and hung in there. Sierra is fast
and she has a nice car. Danielle got around me
and I tried to pass her. I came in a little hot,
bobbed, weaved and flipped over. That’s racing.”
The WORCS racing series next takes its annual
summer break and will be back in action September
16-18 at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, CA.
