2012 KYMCO UXV 500i UTV / SxS Test Ride Review

2012 KYMCO UXV 500i UTV / SxS Test Drive Review
::Continued::

All of the Kymco UXV units come with a 498.5cc dual overhead cam, 4-stroke, 4-valve, engine that has 36 HP. The base model, which was the first one we tested, comes with a 38mm carb, while the newly released UXV 500i is electronic fuel injected by a Synerject throttle body. The standard Kymco UXV 500 IRS 4x4 had decent power and seemed like it would be more than adequate for working around the farm or while out hunting, but we found the 500i with EFI is much more responsive. You can definitely feel a huge difference in the EFI model as there was a lot more bottom end torque and seemed a bit quicker in response. All Kymco UXV models have a governed top speed of 45mph.

The 2012 Kymco UXV 500i features an on-the-fly 2WD to 4WD button & a Diff Lock switch can can be engaged when stopped to provide added traction

The CVT automatic transmission features high, low, neutral, reverse and park gears and all models come standard with differential lock. In low gear with the differential lock engaged we were able to reach a maximum speed of 25mph and the machine performed very well with plenty of power and the ability go over any obstacles. The diff-lock worked well, but it is not an on the fly system so you must stop to engage the diff-lock. Despite having to stop to engage the diff lock, the UXV 500 has on demand 2WD and 4WD that are easily engaged with the flip of a switch.

The Kymco UXV 500 UTV / SxS has 7.5 inches of travel both front & rear, which makes for a stable & comfortable ride on the work site, farm, or trail

For a full sized machine, we were impressed with how well it handled. With 7.5” of travel in the front and rear the UXV 500 felt very stable and predictable, making us feel very confident out on the trails. The five position adjustable shocks soaked up the rough stuff pretty well even in the really rocky sections of our ride. The UXV 500 managed small jumps in an acceptable way, but we would not recommend it for any big jumps as the UXV 500 has value minded suspension.

2012 Kymco UXV 500i SE & LE comes stock with 25" tires & tricked out Aluminum Alloy Wheels

The stock tires and wheels performed well and hooked up even in loose dirt and mud. The tires had minimum roll when cornering and helped give the machine an overall stable feel.
