Primm, NV (2/29/2012) - After
an impromptu start to WORCS SxS racing in 2011
with a stock Polaris RZR XP 900, I secured several
wins and podium finishes, which quickly had me
in the running for the class championship, but
the season ended on a down note when I was pushed
into a Joshua Tree at Racetown 395 by a lapped
racer, which nearly totaled the Polaris RZR XP
900 by twisting the frame and ripping off the
rear trailing arm. As a result, my chance at a
class championship ended along with the rest of
my racing season.
Fortunately, I got a call from TurnKey UTV
while I was deciding what to do with this mangled
RZR XP 900, and they were up to the challenge
to repair the RZR over the winter in hopes it
would be ready for the start of the 2012 WORCS
SxS racing series, which would require even
more work to prepare for than just repairing
the RZR XP with all new SxS rules in place for
2012.

Baron's TurnKey UTV Polaris RZR XP 900
Side-by-Side |
All through 2011, I raced a nearly stock Polaris
XP 900 besides the addition of a safety harness
and Maxxis Big Horn tires, but for 2012,the
WORCS Series imposed numerous safety rules,
which require several modifications including
the addition of a reinforced roll cage that
mounts to the rear bumper, metal roof, locking
doors, window nets, and more, so the TurnKey
UTV crew would have their work cut out for them
to get the Polaris RZR XP 900 in racing order
in less than two months before the start of
the 2012 WORCS racing season at Glen Helen on
January 21st.
These new required safety modifications would
serve to be the easy part for the guys at Turn
Key UTV to build the RZR XP 900. The tough part
would be getting the mangled Polaris RZR XP
900 back to a reliable starting point. It was
obvious that there were serious frame issues
with the car tracking sideways, so they were
forced to strip the RZR XP down to the frame
and straighten it out.
