Racing’s Pro Bounce ATV Nerf Bars GNCC Race
Review
::Continued::
The feedback that had been missing actually
showed itself before I ever asked how the nerfs
seemed to work. I could tell something worked
somewhere because our young rider wasn't hobbling
around like a 90 year old. Sitting pool side soaking
up that warm Florida sun, the feedback was a smile
and the comments on how his ankles and knees did
not seem to be as bad as usual, especially after
that first wake up call known as the first race
of the new season.

After
just one GNCC race, our test rider felt
less tired and sore after the race with
the House Racing Pro Bounce Nerf Bars installed
on our Yamaha YFZ450X ATV |
The same held true as we drove home from round two
and our attention turned again to whether or not
the pro bounce system worked. Goodman's words echoed
throughout the conversation as we both came to the
conclusion that the system does offer some advantages
but that if you are expecting to feel like you are
riding on air you will be disappointed. The real
proof that we felt makes the biggest difference
is knowing that every impact is lessened during
the race even if you don't "feel" it working.
Agreed was the fact that every advantage you can
take to keep a rider from being beaten during a
race has to at some point come into play during
the race and after.
Returning home, a practice session on a standard
set of nerfs quickly showed that in just two races,
our rider had indeed grown accustomed to the bounce
system and said that just in a short amount of
time he could feel his knees ache on the standard
nerfs.

Houser
Racing really put some thought into these
nerf bars as they also incorporated a bend
in the nerf bars to help slide off of trees
in tight woods |
The Pro Bounce system is but one selling point
of the nerfs and the model we were offered has
what Houser explains as a bend in the outer tubing
that will help one pivot around trees. The first
time I saw them I chuckled and exclaimed that
Houser had modeled them off a set of nerf bars
that had been run on a real tight XC course! For
years, top riders have used their nerfs to slide
off trees or "pivot" as it were. Almost
a lost art or a lost cause on the wide open GNCC
courses or WORCS of today, they will find themselves
quite useful on the local and district racing
scene where the courses run narrower and the technique
can still be employed.
After witnessing the aftermath of many GNCC events,
I can say that these nerfs do hold up as well
as any other and that they aren't indestructible.
They are however well made and of high quality
and in line with the type of products Houser has
been known to produce. The construction of the
nerfs consist of bolts instead of welds in an
effort to prevent cracking that seems to be one
of the main reasons of complaint regarding nerfs
in general.
