New
Year's weekend typically brings out a
huge crowd of off-road enthusiast to the
Glamis Sand Dunes in California, but with
Polaris hosting RZR Camp over the weekend,
there was an even larger crowd of RZR
drivers out on the dunes for an exciting
weekend of driving |
We arrived Thursday night, and Polaris had
a fenced off community of RVs set up for us
and we all enjoyed a large bonfire at the camp’s
center discussing how anxious we were to get
a chance to drive the new 2013 Polaris RZR XP
900 H.O. Jagged X Edition SxS / UTV in the Glamis

Located in the southeast corner of California
near the border with Arizona and Mexico, the
Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (sometimes
called the Glamis Sand Dunes) are the largest
mass of sand dunes in California. Formed
primarily as a result of opposing seasonal winds
on the sand of ancient Lake Cahuilla, the dune
system extends for more than 45 miles in a band
averaging 6 miles wide and encompasses over
118,000 acres. Largely known as a favorite location
for OHV enthusiasts, the dunes also offer fabulous
scenery, opportunities for solitude, and a home
to a variety of plants and animals.

The
Glamis Imperial Sand Dunes in California
covers over 118,000 acres with sand covering
over 45 miles of land that is up to 6
miles wide with some hills around 500
feet high, which makes it the ultimate
sand box for off-road enthusiasts |
The Bureau of Land Management estimates that
over 1.4 million visitors come to these sand
dunes each year for day-use riding and/or weekend
camping. Hundreds of thousands of visitors arrive
on various holiday weekends, usually conjuring
near popular areas such as Oldsmobile Hill or
Gecko Road. This particular holiday weekend
was no less than expected and the Polaris event
only added to the excitement and provided a
good chunk to the weekend’s population
of dune goers.
